Agnieszka Holland, three-time Oscar nominee whose films include Europa, Europa and In Darkness, will direct two upcoming episodes of the sinister and immensely popular series, House of Cards.
“Evil is much more photogenic than good,” Holland says in a Bloomgberg interview, among other observations of the human condition.

When English Professor Jonathan Webber rebuilt the cemetery in the tiny Polish town of Brzostek, where his grandfather was born, he invited fellow Jews from across the world to visit Poland and change their minds about their ancestral home.
From Paris, London, Sydney and New York they came… Jews who once called Poland home. Their paths all led back to the same small town.
The Governor-General of the peaceable kingdom in the top half of North America paid a state visit to Poland this month. Małgorzata Bonikowska covered the event for the Toronto-based GAZETA. It’s in Polish but for those of you who don’t read this extraordinary language, just scroll through for the pictures taken by Bonikowska because they give you a wonderful sense of the friendship and depth of it all.
Note a monument consisting of two large rocks honoring the Canadian and Polish forces that fought together during WWII. One rock is from the Kaszuby region of Poland, and the other is from the Kaszuby area in Ontario, the first Polish settlement in Canada. And, by the way, during this visit the Canadian government announced it would import apples from Poland.
