Jan Kowalczewski, a 2006 Poland in the Rockies alumnus, was born in the dead of winter, luckily for him average temperatures in Morocco during that time of year are around 20°C. At the age of 4 he was deeply upset that despite his greatest effort he was unable to make a square soap bubble. At the age of 10 (now living in Canada) he found that the new smoke alarms installed by his parents were very effective at telling everyone "he was up to something". His childhood consisted of building various contraptions including numerous hobby airplanes that did more crashing then flying. He dabbled in many technologies, and media but it was only in University that he was drawn to the sciences, especially to the study of the brain. He was fascinated that these great big sponges could be so important. He managed to get a Ph.D. in that field but it seems he has not grown up yet and keeps inventing various gadgets; lucky for him some of them have been patented. He now focuses on on his greatest passion of making medical devices with his older wiser brother. They have yet to figure out how to make square bubbles. Jan and his brother Antoni are the webmaster magicians making sure CR goes online!
